Hiroshima Peace Memorial Day, First Rain in 43 Years

Place: Hiroshima-shi, Hiroshima-ken, JAPAN 

Date: August 5 - 6, 2014 

This year is the 69th memorial day of the bombing, and it was rain on the peace memorial ceremony after 43 years, it had been fine every year. A lot of people from all over the world came and attend the ceremony to pray for the victims and the world lasting peace even though it was raining. Many types of events related to peace and war were being held as every year. However some problems are coming up; the number of survivors who pass us down their war experience is decreasing year and year because of their age, and the peace education is declining gradually in Hiroshima. It is said that the number of students who do not know even what the day of August 6th is has increased. It is deeply concerned that the memories of the past war is fading away in the next generation.


Nagasaki Peace Memorial Day 

Place: Nagasaki-shi, Nagasaki-ken, JAPAN

Date: August 8 - 9, 2013 

August 9th 1945, one atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, which was after 3 days of Hiroshima's, and approximately 80,000 people died because of it. This year is 68th memorial day of the bombing, and the peace memorial ceremony is held on the same day every year in Nagasaki. A lot of people come to Nagasaki to pray for the victims and lasting peace. Although the damage by the atomic bomb did not spread as much as Hiroshima's because of the basin land form of Nagasaki, the large number of people died and the almost buildings were destroyed. Survivors who experienced tragic war have been suffering the after effect of the atomic bomb; psychological and physical damage such as cancer in the aftermath. Therefore their Individual experiences should be focused on not only the number and scale of the damage in order to know the reality of the war.


Hiroshima Peace Memorial Day, Uprising Movement against Nuclear Power

August 6th 1945, one atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and approximately 140,000 people died. This year is 67th memorial day of the bombing. The peace memorial ceremony is held on the same day every year in Hiroshima. A lot of people get together at Hiroshima peace memorial park and pray for the victims and the world lasting peace, and many types of events related to peace and war are also held to get people to aware of them. In addition, massive anti-nuclear demonstrations were carried out around the memorial park because of the accident of Fukushima No.1 nuclear reactor on March 2011, which exploded and widely spread much radioactive substances. Therefore many people including the atomic bomb victims who know the danger of nuclear directly are strongly against the reactivating nuclear reactors in Japan.
